A Full Spectrum Approach

“Bodywork is the introduction and sacred transition into embodiment that assists people with accessing the faculties within their make up of god given abilities to heal, connection to heart and feeling.”

— Bernhard Guenther

The Way of Compassion

Karuna is a Sanskrit word that typically translates as “compassion” in English and is a concept used in the spiritual paths of Hinduism and Buddhism. Karuna is a selfless compassion, similar to the compassion a mother has for her new born child, an unconditional state of connection, expecting nothing in return.

I believe that true compassion is essential for human beings to share with one another, not only for our overall well-being but for our growth and evolution. What is true compassion anyway? I believe it goes way beyond the simple ability to have a level of caring and empathy towards others. In my search of what true compassion is, I came across the following passage that I think accurately sums it up for me and my practice:

“True compassion arises when one’s life is totally and completely turned over to the power and presence of God Within. Power and effectiveness in healing arises when one comes from the center of one’s being, instead of from mind and ego. Having an open heart is only part of the equation. Being able to use the mind and other subtle faculties of being is also important. But having true spiritual understanding is essential.” – Sal Rachele

Karuna Bodywork represents the importance of this concept, It’s the deeper level of compassion that I practice consciously engaging with, not only my practice, but in my own my life with each and every one of my clients. It is simultaneously a professional and spiritual practice of cultivating self awareness and selfless compassion for myself and others.

To touch is to give life

“A good quality bodywork practice with nurturing touch is both preventive medicine and highly therapeutic, as it has the potential to go to “the root” and heal from a full-spectrum perspective, addressing the cause and not just the symptoms. Our own body-intelligence is always striving towards health and well-being. We just need to create the right conditions so the body can heal itself. It’s about caring for your body and health, so that disease, injury or illness can’t manifest themselves in your body “temple”.

“Massage for me is the gentle art of receiving with the hands and listening with the heart, It’s a dance and conversation with the body, a dynamic FLOW that creates the space for the body to tap into its own healing capabilities, physically, mentally, emotionally and ethereally. I have nothing to do with it, I simply promote the process”.
